On May 25th, 2011, the sixth annual James Slater Award for professionalism in the practice of criminal law was presented to Assistant Public Defender Carolyn Schlemmer by the Judges of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. Carolyn had been trained by Jim and worked with him extensively. She is now the lead death penalty attorney for the Public Defender's Office. Moving tributes to Jim were given by Circuit Court Judges Rick DeFuria and Peter Dubensky. Jim has been gone six years now but he is not forgotten.
