Derek Byrd wins 2018 Jim Slater Award

 The Jim Slater Award for Professionalism in the Practice of Criminal Law was not awarded in 2017. Derek Byrd was the 2018 recipient. Derek is a past president of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and current member of the Board of the Innocence Project of Florida. He is well known in Sarasota and Manatee counties for his work on behalf on many clients. Congratulations Derek!

Chris Pratt receives 2016 Jim Slater award.

     Chris Pratt, a criminal defense attorney based in Palmetto, Florida, received the 2016 Jim Slater award for professionalism in the practice of criminal law. Pratt has practiced in the 12th Judicial Circuit for over 30 years. Congratulations to a genuinely good guy.

Brett McIntosh presented with the 2015 Jim Slater award

  Circuit Court Judge Diana Moreland presented Brett McIntosh with the 2015 Jim Slater  award for professionalism in the practice of criminal law. The recognition came at the Law Day celebration hosted by the Manatee County Bar Association on May 20, 2015.  McIntosh is the tenth recipient of this honor which is the only award presented by the judges of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit.


Brian Iten is the winner of the 2014 Jim Slater award

Brian Iten became the second Assistant State Attorney to be presented with the Jim Slater  award for professionalism in the practice of criminal law. This recognition is presented by the judges of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. Assistant State Attorney Bruce Lee was the 2009 recipient.

Rebecca Wilson Presented with the 2013 Jim Slater Award

    Assistant Public Defender Rebecca Wilson was presented with the 2013 Jim Slater Award for Professionalism in the Practice of Criminal Law. This is the only award given by the judges of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit.
      Rebecca has worked in the Public Defender's Office since 1999 and specializes in representing juvenile offenders. Everyone in the local court system knows that Rebecca is an authority on the juvenile rules of procedure and understands the various rehabilitative programs that are able to assist these young people and their families. As Judge Peter Dubensky said when presenting the award; "Rebecca is an exceptionally worthy recipient of this honor."
