This year's Jim Slater Award for professionalism in the practice of criminal law, was presented to Assistant Public Defender Peter Belmont. Judge Peter Dubensky presented the award to Belmont at the Law Day meeting of the Manatee County Bar Association held on May 30, 2012.
Peter Belmont worked for 30 years in the Manatee County office of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Public Defender. Peter gave a nice acceptance speech where he reflected on the many years that he worked with Jim Slater. He is a worthy recipient of the award and I wish him well in his future endeavors, as he has now retired.
